Pinterest is a goldmine for promoting digital products.
The BEST part about Pinterest is that unlike most forms of social media, Pinterest is a search engine. Therefore the content you post on Pinterest works for you for the long-term!
Even just a handful of pins have the potential to generate traffic for weeks, months, or even years if they’re properly optimized (more on that in a second!)
Whether you’re just starting or have a new account, Pinterest allows you to reach a broader audience with very minimal effort.
By creating eye-catching pins and utilizing keywords, search engine optimized descriptions, and strong pin titles, you can learn how to market digital products on Pinterest and sell digital products effectively in as little as 2-3 hours per month.
The visual nature of Pinterest makes it perfect for showcasing your digital products and driving traffic to your sales pages.
Instagram is one of my favorite (and free) ways of marketing digital products on social media.
With its highly engaged and loyal user base, Instagram provides an excellent platform to promote digital products.
Even if you’re new to Instagram, you can start by creating engaging content, using relevant hashtags, and leveraging Instagram Stories and Reels to showcase your products.
Consistency and interaction with your audience are key to building a loyal following.
Be sure to show up with value – not just going into a hard sell “buy my product!” – instead demonstrate why and how the product is valuable to your ideal customer and how it will help them.
Most importantly, be yourself!
Be your authentic, weird, quirky, honest, vulnerable self.
People want to know you, and showing who you are, perfectly imperfect, makes you relatable AF!! (and relatable = memorable…. which means when that prospective customer is ready to buy, they’re comin’ right back to you, you adorkable weirdo!!) 🫶
TikTok is BOOOOOMING, and it’s a fantastic platform for marketing digital products.
With TikTok’s algorithm favoring authentic and engaging content, you can promote your products even if you’re new to the platform.
One way to promote digital products on TikTok is to use TikTok Shop to directly sell products and reach a younger, tech-savvy audience.
Being successful on TikTok can depend on several factors:
Niche digital products that appeal to specific target audiences often perform better on TikTok compared to products that are more broad and over-arching in their topics.
Additionally, TikTok’s algorithm favors video content that is highly engaging and entertaining. If the content created focuses too heavily on selling, engagement tends to be lower and therefore the algorithm will not push that content out as much, resulting in lower views.
Similar to on Instagram, to be successful on TikTok, focus on creating content that highlights your product’s features and benefits in a fun, relatable way. This could include tutorials, behind-the-scenes looks, or user-generated content. Show, don’t tell, your potential customers how your product will make their lives easier or simpler.
Overall, if you’ve got an understanding on the “right” type of content to make, Tiktok has a strong potential to be very profitable, as even having one or two videos take off and go viral can result in a significant spike in sales.
Listing your digital products on Etsy can be a game-changer. Here are some mind-boggling stats about Etsy:
Etsy’s massive audience means you, as a seller on Etsy, get automated traffic and sales without needing to constantly promote digital products on social media or Pinterest.
This platform is perfect for top digital products on Etsy, allowing you to leverage their established search features, payment processors, and audience base to boost your sales effortlessly.
It’s a great way to reach customers who are already looking for digital products.
As with everything though, there are some downsides to Etsy as there are with the other ways of promoting I’ve already shared in this post.
First, there is obviously fierce competition. As of the end of 2023, Etsy had 7 million active sellers, up 30% from the prior year.
Next, there are fees associated with being a seller on Etsy. Both per sale and also per listing. The listing fees get renewed on a regular basis, so if you have several hundred products you need to pay to keep them active. If you are selling low-ticket digital products, these fees can add up and cut into your bottom line quickly.
Finally, there is the lack of “ownership” over your business – as Etsy reserves the right to remove your shop from their marketplace at any time. It’s essentially the same as renting vs. owning your home.
In my opinion, you want to “own” your business instead of just renting the real estate. At the end of the day, I think Etsy is a good starting point but as your business grows and scales I would recommend moving to a business setup where you are protected from another company having power over your business.
